Description
This course will require the use of the NIMS approved textbook that is titled "Precision Machining Technology" .
The videos provided will enhance your learning experience. It is recommended that you watch the videos first and then continue with the reading assignments. Please note that any reference to a Chapter within the videos or the Power points should not be of concern.
You should pace yourself and complete the amount of work each week that will ensure that you are done on time. There are a total of 44 sections in this course. If you complete 2-3 sections per week ( including the tests/quizzes as a section ) you will stay on track.
NOTE: There is one quiz in this course that is only a knowledge check, it does not count as a grade. It is optional. This quiz is listed as " Semester 1 - Machine tools - Chapter 10".and it is right before the "Mid-Term Test"
There are not any assignments that need to be turned in, your tests are automatically graded and that will determine your grade point average. You do not need to do the questions that are found in the textbook at the end of the Unit . That means the review tests do not need to be completed.

Machine tool technology- student checklist
Week 1
___ 1) Semester one / section 1 - shop safety video- this is a PowerPoint video that covers basic safety found in a machine shop. Watch this video in its entirety.
___ 2) Semester one / Section 2- unit one - machine tools - introduction to safety. This reading assignment can be found in your NIMS precision machine technology textbook. Begin by opening this video and watch it in its entirety. Then read your textbook beginning on page 42 and end your reading assignment on Page 61. We begin here because “Shop Safety” is first and foremost.
Week 2
___ 3 ) Semester 1 Section 1 Reading Assignment - This reading assignment can be found in your NIMS _ Precision Machine Technology Textbook on: Page 3 – 40. This is an overview of machining. We started with safety first, now we need to cover this course material.
____ 4) Semester 1 - Section 2- Unit 1 - Machine Tools - Introduction to Safety - Power Point: This PowerPoint should be read at your own pace. It is not a duplicate of the video, and it has additional safety information on it.
Week 3
____5) Semester 1 - Section 2 - Unit 1 - Machine Tools - Introduction to Safety Quiz
This is a 5 question True and False / Multiple choice quiz, it is timed (20 minutes) and you must score an 80 %. Once you begin the quiz, you must complete it. You will have two attempts to be successful, and the system will take your highest score.
____6) Semester 1 - Section 2 - Unit 1- machine tools- Flammable and combustible liquids PowerPoint: this powerpoint should be reviewed in its entirety at any time during the reading assignment that begins on page 42 and ends on pg 62
Week 4
NOTE: because we cover basic shop math extensively in our basic and applied shop mathematics course, we will not cover the section in this textbook on page 63 to page 81
____8) Semester 1 Section 2 Reading Assignment - This reading assignment can be found in your NIMS _ Precision Machine Technology Textbook on: Page 83 – 199. This section covers Semi-Precision Measurements.
Week 5
___9) Semester 1 Section 2 - Unit 3 - - Machine Tools - Inspection Tools and Procedures Video.
This video will cover many of the semi-precision measuring tools that this chapter offers. Watch this video in its entirety and then continue with your reading assignment as identified in the next module.
___10) Semester 1 - Section 2 - Unit 3 - Machine Tools- Semi - Precision Measurements - Reading a Machinist Scale - This video is used to enhance your textbook materials. It should assist you in learning how to read a Machinist Scale.
Week 6
____ 11) Semester 1 - Section 2 – Unit 3 – Measurement Test. This is a 5 question test, it is multiple choice, and it is timed.
___ 12) Semester 1 - Section 2 - Unit 4 - Machine Tools - Gage Blocks/Sine Bar - This is a video that will help you to understand the use and the care required for gage blocks ( sometimes called Jo Blocks ) The term Jo Block comes from Johansson Gauges. The text for this video is complimented by reading found on page 107 -109
